The Christmas Tree is used by Christians as a form of decoration during the season. The Christmas tree goes back many centuries and today it holds an important place as part of the celebrations during the Christmas season. Mexico holds the World record for creating the World’s tallest Christmas tree which is 295 feet tall.
The aim is to break this record by building the largest Christmas tree at Galle Face Green. Construction work has already begun.
This project is aimed at showing the world the religious harmony that exists within the country and the foundation laying ceremony was held recently under the leadership of Port and Shipping Minister Arjuna Ranatunga who laid the foundation stone. Speaking on this occasion Minister Ranatunga said The present good governance practiced by the government can protect the peace and harmony of this nation. The time has come to start on a path of religious harmony.When handing over this country to the next generation we should make sure that there are no clashes between any nations. There should be no religious problems. We have created an environment where religious leaders can sit and talk about their religions. This project is expected to cost around Rs. One million and it is expected to be opened on the 24th of December.
